The 72-year-old Sterling Van Wagenen pleaded guilty of child abuse and Judge Roger Griffin sentenced him to life in prison with the possibility of parole after six years. However, the judge has already recommended to the parole board that he be held in prison longer than the minimum of six years.

Sterling Van Wagenen did not apologize to his victim, arguing that it would be “useless”, but he claims to feel deeply the consequences of his actions.

According to the prosecution, the individual allegedly sexually touched a girl of minor age twice between 2013 and 2015.

Although no longer associated with the organization for over 20 years, Sterling Van Wagenen is the co-founder, along with actor Robert Redford, of the film festival known today as the Sundance Film Festival.
