Flag bill American made . There is nothing more American than the american flag. Yet despite the recent wave of american patriotism, most of the American flags purchased by the Federal Government are not made in America. But to solve this issue, a bill has been introduced into the U.S. Senate that calls for the American flags the federal government uses to be made in America.
The Flag bill introduced by Sen. Susan Collins and Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, which they call the “All-American Flag Act” would require the Federal Government to only use American flags that were made in America. The flags would also have to be made with American material.
The government is required to buy flags by from at least 50 percent American-made materials under current law. Similar proposals to ensure all-American flags passed the Senate twice earlier this decade. Both of those efforts stalled in the House of Representatives.
“American tax dollars should go to American-made products that support American jobs, especially when the product is a symbol of our nation,” says Sen. Brown.
“We need to produce the symbol of our country in a way that supports American jobs and American manufacturers,” she added.
Collins says the rule change would make sure “the symbol of our nation is preserved while supporting American jobs and manufacturers.”
