Megan Rapinoe accepts Cortez invite—Soccer superstar Megan Rapinoe has accepted the invitation of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to visit the House of Representatives. A new snub to Donald Trump after Rapinoe had preemptively rejected an invitation from the Trump administration to come to the White House in case of final success in the World Cup.

America is a divided country. Since the advent of President Donald Trump, the country has been polarized between pro and anti Trump clans. Megan Rapinoe, playing for her country in the Woman World Cup in France, has not been spared by this phenomenon.

Star of her selection, the American co-captain has been in the media for her harsh criticism of Donald Trump and protests against what she perceives as racism in America. She has also been highly efficient on the field, scoring twice against France in the quarterfinals at the Parc des Princes (2-1).

After announcing that she would not go “to this fucking White House” in case of final success at Groupama Stadium, the purple haired player became the subject of a tweet of the President. Trump particularly dislike Rapinoe’s decision to not sing the American anthem before the games, in response to the “racist” and “misogynist” policy he leads in the country.

A situation that does not pose as much problems to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The new star of the democratic party, elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018, has invited the soccer player to the House of Representatives. ” It may not be the White House, but we’d be happy to welcome @mPinoe & the entire #USWMNT for a tour of the House of Representatives anytime they’d like,” she wrote on Twitter.

The invitation did not fall on deaf ears. “Consider it done,” Rapinoe promptly responded. Before that can happen though, the US has to wim the championship. Though highly favored, the will have to beat England in the semi-finals of the World Cup in Lyon. Then, they will have to win final.
