Lilya Novikova has been electrocuted. The Russian media reported that the young woman, known in the online gaming world and winning several international tournaments, lost her life. According to the first elements of the investigation, she is the victim of an electrocution in her bathtub with her hair dryer.
A Russian online poker star died late last week after being electrocuted in her bath with a hairdryer, Russian media reported. Lilia Novikova, known online under the nickname Liya or Liay5, was found dead in her bath by a neighbor. The latter had been alerted by relatives of the young woman who had no news of her.
The Investigative Committee of the City of Moscow, which investigates fatal accidents, said in a statement that a woman born in 1992 was found in her bathtub with “signs of electrocution” but did not give the identity of the victim.
On its official group on VK, the Russian equivalent of Facebook, however, posted a statement saying that “Liya is dead. Yesterday. An accident. She is not here anymore. She has left us.”
Lilia Novikova was followed by more than 15,000 people on Instagram. Four days ago, she was still posting game tips accompanied by photos in which she did not hesitate to put herself on the stage.
The dedicated website Pokerstrategy.com paid tribute to her, calling her “a very active member of the poker community”. She had “won international tournaments” and “was a very popular young woman,” said Ilia Gorodetski.
In an interview with Pokerstrategy.com in 2015, Lilia Novikova said she started playing poker as a child and was a student in computer-aided design and mechanical engineering at the prestigious Moscow State Technical University.
