Illinois girl dies in snow fort incident

A 12-year-old Illinois girl has died from asphyxiation under a snow fort following a snowfall on Sunday in Arlington Heights.

The victim was playing with a 9-year-old friend in a pile of snow outside a church, CNN reports.

The two children were having fun building a fort when it collapsed on them, according to the local police.

The parents of the two victims were at Mass in the church when the accident occurred.

They were taken to the hospital where the oldest of the two died. The other was hospitalized to be treated for hypothermia.

The identity of the two girls has not been revealed.
