According to the Lego Foundation, playing would be very important in the development of the child and would play a role of preparation for entry into society and the world of adults.
Many parents wonder how to prepare their children for the world that awaits them a few years later. According to John Goodwin, head of the Lego Foundation, children must be given a large amount of time for play, as this could help them to be more functional in their life in general, especially in their professional lives.
This was confirmed in 2008 by a study published in the Encyclopedia of Early Childhood Development. The two researchers who conducted the study felt that conducted was crucial for the child’s social and emotional development.
Dressing up or playing construction games would allow children to cultivate their creativity and have other benefits such as the development of emotional intelligence and empathy, or the regulation of emotions. Moreover, it would be much better to let the child naturally choose his or her games rather than the latter being imposed on him o her.
The researchers have drawn up a list of games that are good children development, as reported by Quartz. First, there would be creative games such as dance and drawing, perfect for expressing their feelings, communicating and apprehending the world around them. Then there are construction games to cultivate skills such as patience, perseverance and dexterity.
Other games that can be practiced outdoors such as hide-and-seek or buffalo are aimed at developing motor skills. Finally, role plays, puppets and disguises will be more likely to develop the social and sentimental side.
According to a survey conducted by Edelman Intelligence, 56% of parents surveyed said that their children spend less than an hour a day playing outside . That’s less time than a prisoner placed in a high security prison. Why? Electronic gadgets are partly responsible, but that’s not all. Some children are overbooked: guitar lessons, judo, dance, homework, etc. These activities are often considered more rewarding by parents than just playing.
